Recording Production

Marv Ross is a producer, songwriter, and guitarist with extensive experience in the recording studio. In 1981 with his wife, vocalist and saxophonist, Rindy Ross, he formed Quarterflash. Their award-winning debut album, which featured Marv's hit single, Harden My Heart , went platinum with four top-forty hits. Along with Quarterflash's four albums, Marv has also written and produced music for film, the stage, and TV with songs in Nightshift, Gremlins, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, and Visionquest .

QuarterflashFrom 1981 through '89 Marv co-produced the Quarterflash's albums and gained extensive knowledge from John Boylan (Rick Nelson, Linda Ronstadt, Boston, Little River Band). It was during these years that Marv's expertise in studio production was developed along with his co-writing skills, computer sequencing experience, and pre-production methods. Marv has co-written with Burt Bacharach, Diane Warren, and many other recording artists.

In 1991 Marv was commissioned by the state of Oregon to write and produce a musical for the Sesquicentennial (150th year) of the Trail. Voices from the Oregon Trail was Marv's debut in writing for theatre and received a strong reception from critics and audiences alike. From'Voices' came the formation of a new group based upon traditional string and brass ensembles of the 1800's called The Trail Band, whose popular Christmas and Oregon Trail shows have toured across the country and overseas. Along with Cal Scott, Marv has produced The Trail Band's five albums that have been used in 3 television specials, for numerous films, and for interpretive centers.

Marv has an in-house 16 channel studio that he uses for smaller projects and he usually works with Bob Stark, a highly respected engineer in the Portland area. He likes to work with ensembles and considers pre-production and "honing" the songs important aspects of the recording process. In the Northwest he has produced, co-written, and/or engineered the following artists: Seafood Mama, Quarterflash, Man In Motion, McKinley, The Trail Band, Maureen Andrews, Mick Doherty, Arlie Neskahi, Linda Hornbuckle, Meria Solinger, Tom Hampson, and Tim Schneider.
